This thing is even better than Mostly Metal Jacket; the graphics are funny, atmospheric, and downright hallucinogenic; the song is freaking awesome and completely unlike what is normally used in an animutation, or any flash music video for that manner; and in general this is just a big pile of freakin' awesome. I also liked the John Landreneau button, but it's not actually possible to get enough clicks to trigger a special event when you click the bunny at the end of the movie, is it? I stopped the movie to get in a couple extra minutes of clicking but it still wasn't enough, so am I correct in assuming that this is just a red herring?

Great stuff, I look forward to whatever's next. I'mma gonna fifen this every day just like Mostly Metal.

Author's Response:

Clicking on the John Landreneau Button is like helping the less fortunate; there'll be nothing to tell you that you've done enough.

Newgrounds SIM v 1.2

"Not bad"

date: May 10, 2005

You've obviously put a lot of effort into this, and you've made quite the addictive game; I ended up playing this thing for four hours, getting to Admin status in one sitting.

It just wasn't all that fun, though.

One thing I noticed very early on is how repetitive the music loop gets. I quickly turned it off to listen to music, but when Tom appeared I had to scramble to shut off my music and turn the volume in the game back on, missing half of what he said in the process. It's odd that you left the sound effects on when music is muted, but not his speech. Or maybe I'm just remembering things poorly, my mind's been swiss cheese lately.

Also, deleting e-mail is a very boring task in real life when you can delete them in bulk. When you have to delete them one at a time, in A GAME, it's downright infuriating. Since you're coming up with a bugfix of some sort for this, please consider toning down the amount of junk mail and fan/hate mail a person gets. Probably 1/3 the current level would be best.

Also, the strategy to the game eventually gets very repetitive; once you're a moderator, there's no reason to do anything on the Newgrounds website other than post on the BBS and submit flash, since lurking is inefficient and there's no obvious purpose to writing reviews. Seriously; reviews don't seem to pump up any of your stats even at Admin level unless I'm missing out on something, and you can't even get a sticker for them.

One minor quibble I have is the View Your Movies option on the fake Newgrounds. The number of reviews a movie gets is pretty unrealistic; look at this game. It currently has 41,259 views, but only 314 reviews, which is under 1%. Even the votes are only at 2,035 for about 5%, yet movies in your sim tend to get about 50-80% as many reviews as they do views.

This was a creative idea and a well-programmed game, but there's just no fun factor behind it, not to mention the sheer weirdness of playing around with a fake Grounds Gold account. You have taken 4 hours of my life, but you won't be getting any more.

This is a very creative idea; isn't that red sprite one of the characters from Aah! Real Monsters? I used to love that show.

Author's Response:

haha indeed it is!

You have a great sense of humor, and it's a pretty mean feat to pull off this 3d effect. The trees make it hard to see though.

"Heh, very nice"

If I understand the plot correctly though, then isn't there a robotic duplicate of Shinra (probably got the name around) running amok in the Ikaruga timeline with a counterfeit Ikaruga ship? Seems like a pretty nasty loose end unless you were planning a fourth movie or something. The rest of the plot is great though, and the action sequences are a big step up from the last two. All in all, I'd say you were right in claiming that this blows the first two out of the water; good job.

Author's Response:

I'm quite impressed that you picked up on that... good job. Let's just say that I like to keep my options open. :)

One Two (little bitch)

"Not bad"

date: April 28, 2005

Most of this was pretty well done, and I liked the song. The parts with the dancing Samus and Shyguy sprites were kinda weak, though; the graphics weren't nearly as good and the animation took a huge hit in those sections. Still though, this is 2/3s of an excellent flash.

Trix Rabbit Justice Ad

"Nice"

date: April 25, 2005

That was pretty funny, and the graphics and animation were both excellent; I really liked the slight redesigns you gave to each of the characters. The voices didn't sound anything like the ones used in the commercials, though. With most of the characters it didn't matter much, but the rabbit was way too high-pitched and was just plain wrong. I also saw a typo; it should be spelt 'oppression'. Other than those minor quirks though, this was very well done and I'm looking forward to whatever you end up doing in the future. This is probably the best first flash I've ever seen.

MMZ - The Last Cataclysm

"Wow"

date: April 9, 2005

That was very professionally done, and pretty entertaining to boot. To the person who didn't get the "Fight for everlasting peace!" line, that's a reference to the ending of the original Mega Man game. The voices have emotion to them and mostly fit the characters (The people who voiced Leviathan and Fefnir were especially awesome), but a few of them sound a bit weird; Inarabbita sounds even more shrill than I had imagined, and Zero is almost comically masculine. For the most part though, they're very well done, even the ones that don't quite fit.
