Death By Pacman

"Pretty good for a stick movie"

submission: Death By Pacman
date: May 1, 2008

This should be labeled a movie, not a game. The graphics were pretty weak, but I actually found myself enjoying the Megaman-ish final scene. And, for some reason, I found the 'You are dead' screen funnier each time I saw it. It's a shame that the stick guy couldn't get a break; he came pretty close to winning but in the end it just wasn't enough I guess.

Yeah we know 'cause it's our 1st try so we decided to use a stick figure as our 1st test dummy but let me assure you that our next submition will be better

Dragonoids

"Nice"

submission: Dragonoids
date: April 19, 2008

This is an interesting variation on Asteroids that I had fun playing. However, I couldn't figure out what the blue orbs are for. If they're powerups, what do they do? Also, the game slows down from lag pretty badly as the game wears on and asteroids flood the screen. And for some reason the game sometimes won't let me submit my score to the high score board, and so far as I can tell it has nothing to do with how high or low the score is. Despite those odd glitches though, the game itself is sound.

Balloonster

"Addictive"

submission: Balloonster
date: January 18, 2008

The game takes a very long time to build anything resembling a frantic pace. Probably the main complaint I have is that there's no real risk involved in playing; the player loses nothing by letting a balloon of the color they're supposed to be shooting float by, and this is often the best course of action since accidentally hitting a balloon of the wrong color resets the multiplier and brings the player a step closer to the end of the game. The penalties for hitting the wrong balloon aren't bad, but the design encourages the player to play very cautiously and never take chances, which can lead to the player ignoring anything even remotely resembling a difficult shot, which makes the game easier and possibly duller than intended.

I had a good time, but perhaps some kind of modification to encourage the player to shoot at more of the balloons would help; maybe a partial reduction to the score multiplier for letting a shootable balloon float by without shooting at it, or since that can get pretty unfair once you're past level 20 or so and the screen's flooded with balloons by that point a better course of action might be to have the score multiplier gradually reduce on its own, thus forcing the player to shoot at more balloons to keep the multiplier high. Make them fight for that 50x!

P.S. In this current no-penalty-for-inaction build, there's no real reason that I can think of to ever use the pause button. Having one is a nice touch, though.

Author's Response:

Hi, that is a great idea with slowly taking down the multiplier.

I just added this to the game. Thanks again.

On the one hand, this is clearly one of the worst things ever, albeit competently made. On the other hand, it was also hilarious in a disturbing way.

That was completely and utterly idiotic, so of course I loved it. Good job on fitting it into such a small file btw.

Author's Response:

Ha ha! Thanx
Indeed. It's idiotic, I completely agree. But c'mon! We're young and foolish details spice a little bit our lives!

Thanx a lot. Cheers!

Forum Stage Episode 1

"Wow"

date: February 11, 2006

It's a cartoon based on the forum of another cartoon. Part of me wants to scream at the top of its lungs "WHY DOES THIS EXIST?!", while the other parts like some of the humor but wonder what's up with the somewhat slow pace when you're clearly trying to go for a fast, Bonus Stage-y humor style. Like with the cut to Newgrounds, they were just talking about Newgrounds and it's obvious where Idiot's gone to, yet he still feels the need to say "Cool, I'm in Newgrounds!" before getting attacked by pop-ups... which consists of one pop-up that stays up on the screen for at least twice as long as its funny.

Also, the blue smiley-face is unbelievably annoying. Please stab it in the face for me.

Author's Response:

Yeah, the premise is whacked-out. Anyway, thanks for the criticism without being a n00b about it. Like I said, this is my first flash, and it's not the best thing in the world.

Also, for the premise, it was started by another Bonus Stage forumgoer, but it never got off the ground so I took it upon my shoulders.

The Gayest Showdown

"Not bad"

date: January 16, 2006

If you were going for the so-crappy-it's-hilarious sounds and visuals on purpose, then this is one of the best parodies I've seen in months. If, on the other hand, you were actually trying to make something good it didn't work. Either way though, it's pretty funny.

This is a decent idea for a game, but it's annoying as hell that whenever you insult somebody a screen pops up where you have to click a button to continue playing. Constantly interrupting the gameplay like that for no reason makes it really hard to get into this thing and enjoy it.

Author's Response:

thanks, you are right, i will take that into account for my future games

Were the voices supposed to be that hard to understand? The graphics were okay as far as stick figures go, and the fight was pretty creative; the whole thing had a great 'wtf' factor that boosted it from "piece of shit stick movie" to "not bad stick movie". It's not going to win any awards, but I'm going to be pissed if this gets blammed.

Sting of the Stingray

"Wow"

date: May 19, 2005

This thing is even better than Mostly Metal Jacket; the graphics are funny, atmospheric, and downright hallucinogenic; the song is freaking awesome and completely unlike what is normally used in an animutation, or any flash music video for that manner; and in general this is just a big pile of freakin' awesome. I also liked the John Landreneau button, but it's not actually possible to get enough clicks to trigger a special event when you click the bunny at the end of the movie, is it? I stopped the movie to get in a couple extra minutes of clicking but it still wasn't enough, so am I correct in assuming that this is just a red herring?

Great stuff, I look forward to whatever's next. I'mma gonna fifen this every day just like Mostly Metal.

Author's Response:

Clicking on the John Landreneau Button is like helping the less fortunate; there'll be nothing to tell you that you've done enough.
